Origin

Once upon a time, far across the galaxy from Earth, there was a planet unlike any other. It was called Apokolips, and it was not green or blue like our world. It was grey and orange, covered in towering iron factories, and threaded through with rivers of fire that never, ever went out.

On this fiery planet lived a young god named Uxas.

Uxas was clever and strong, but he was not content. He watched his mother, Queen Heggra, sit upon the throne of Apokolips, and every single day, he wanted that throne more than anything in the universe. He was a prince, but a prince was not a king, and Uxas did not like waiting.

So one day, Uxas made a choice that no one on Apokolips had ever been brave — or foolish — enough to make before.

Deep in the heart of the planet churned the Fire Pits, a river of molten flame so hot it could melt down mountains. Legends said the Fire Pits could destroy anyone who was weak, but they could also forge someone new if that someone was strong enough to survive the burning.

Uxas walked toward the Fire Pits without looking back.

Can you imagine the heat? The roar of the flames, orange and gold, rising all around him like a wall? Uxas walked straight into that wall of fire.

And he did not disappear.

When Uxas finally stepped out of the Fire Pits, he was not the same young god who had walked in. His skin had turned to solid grey stone, cracked like ancient granite, tough as any armor ever forged. His eyes glowed with a strange, powerful light that had never existed before. Everyone who saw him understood, without being told, that something enormous had changed.

From that day forward, he was no longer called Uxas.

He was Darkseid.

And Darkseid did not ask for the throne of Apokolips. He simply took it. No one who challenged him could stand against his new stone strength, and one by one, they stepped aside, until Darkseid ruled the whole fiery planet, from its iron towers to its blazing Fire Pits.

Darkseid built an empire around obedience. He gathered an army of Parademons — winged, armored soldiers who could march out of glowing orange doorways called Boom Tubes by the thousands, appearing wherever Darkseid commanded. He kept a clever, whispering advisor named Desaad close beside his throne, always ready to carry out his orders.

But even with an entire planet under his stone hand, Darkseid was not satisfied. He had heard old, old rumors of something called the Anti-Life Equation — a secret pattern, hidden somewhere in the universe, that could take away every living being's free will all at once. Darkseid believed that if he could find it, no one, anywhere, could ever stand against him again.

Not the shining New Gods who lived on a bright world called New Genesis.

Not anyone at all.

So Darkseid turned his glowing eyes toward the endless dark of space, and he began his search. His scouts flew farther and farther, past a hundred distant galaxies, past stars too numerous to count, until at last his gaze landed on one small, quiet, blue-and-green planet, spinning gently around a yellow sun.

Earth.

Darkseid did not know it yet — how could he? — but that small, ordinary-looking planet was about to become the one place in the whole universe where his stone will could not win. There were heroes there. Ordinary people who had become extraordinary. People who would not bow, no matter how many Parademons marched through the Boom Tubes, no matter how bright his Omega glow burned.

And so, on a quiet night far away, the stone-grey tyrant of Apokolips set his course for Earth, never imagining just how much trouble he was about to find.

Because on Earth, a hero named Superman had come from a distant planet too, and had grown up learning kindness instead of conquest. A warrior named Wonder Woman had trained since childhood on a hidden island, ready to defend anyone in need. Together with their friends, they called themselves the Justice League, and they were exactly the kind of heroes who did not bow to tyrants.

And far beyond Earth, on the shimmering world of New Genesis, the New Gods watched the darkness spread across the stars, and they, too, began to prepare. They had faced Darkseid before. They knew his stone will, his Omega glow, and his endless hunger for more.

None of them knew yet how the story would unfold. But one thing was already true, even before the first battle began: Darkseid, for all his fire-forged strength, had never once faced a world quite like this one.

But that, dear listener, is a story for tomorrow night.
