Villain Thanos
Once upon a time, on a planet that had once been beautiful and was now broken, a warrior stood still and waited.
The planet was called Titan. Long ago it had been a gleaming world of towers and domes and humming machines, full of light and learning. Now the towers were rubble and the domes were cracked and the only sounds were the wind moving through empty corridors and the quiet creaking of old metal settling further into dust. This was the world where Thanos had been born. This was the world he had failed to save. And now he was coming back.
Drax the Destroyer stood in the ruins of a great courtyard and breathed slowly.
He had been waiting for this moment his entire rebuilt life. Every morning he had woken with that name burning in his chest like a coal that never cooled. Every spar, every dagger throw, every mile crossed in the cold dark between the stars — all of it had been pointing here. To Titan. To this.
He was not alone.
Beside him stood Tony Stark in his golden and red Iron Man armor, its repulsor ports glowing soft blue. Spider-Man crouched on a broken column nearby, mask tilted and curious, watching the horizon. Doctor Strange stood in his red Cloak of Levitation, rings of golden light drifting around his fingers. And of course the Guardians — Star-Lord with his blasters at his hips, Gamora with her sword drawn, Nebula scanning the sky with cold silver eyes.
All of them. Here. Together.
When the shadow of Thanos fell across the far edge of the ruined courtyard, Drax took one step forward.
"Drax." It was Star-Lord. His hand closed gently on Drax's arm.
Iron Man took the other arm. "We have a plan," he said quietly.
Drax looked at the distant figure of Thanos. He looked at Star-Lord. He looked at Thanos again. He breathed in through his nose and out through his mouth and stood very, very still.
"I am calm," he said.
His voice sounded like a boulder trying very hard to be a pebble.
But he stayed. He let the plan unfold around him the way a tide comes in — slowly, carefully, each piece moving into place. He crouched behind a broken wall and held his daggers and waited, and the waiting was the hardest thing he had ever done in either of his lives.
Then Doctor Strange raised his hands, and golden rings of the Mirror Dimension sang through the air and snapped around Thanos like a cage of light. WHOOOM. Spider-Man launched himself from the column, web-shooters firing with that familiar sound — thwip thwip thwip — lashing the Mad Titan's gauntleted arm to his side. Iron Man came in blazing, repulsors roaring, and the ruins lit up gold and red.
Drax leapt.
Both daggers, full strength, every single bright burning thing inside him — he drove them forward and hit Thanos with the force of everything he had carried for so long. The ground cracked under them. The ruins shuddered.
Thanos turned and looked at him.
Just looked. That was the thing Drax never forgot. Not angry. Not dismissive. Just a long, quiet look that said: you are stronger than I expected.
That was the moment Drax had spent his whole rebuilt life moving toward.
The plan was working. Nebula's silver fingers closed around the edge of the Infinity Gauntlet. Star-Lord's hands found the other side. The gauntlet was coming loose — slowly, slowly —
And then the thing that broke the plan was not a weapon or a strategy. It was a feeling. A terrible, understandable, very human feeling that came at the very worst moment, and Thanos twisted free, and the courtyard fell silent.
The battle was over.
Drax stood in the pale Titan dust, breathing hard, both daggers still in his hands. He had not won. He had not gotten the justice he had carried across the galaxy. The war was not over.
But he had faced Thanos. He had looked the Mad Titan in the eye and not looked away. Not one flinch. Not one step back.
And somewhere in the ruin of Titan, under a pale and ancient sky, that felt like something that mattered.
The universe was still writing its story. Drax was still in it.
Close your eyes now, and know this: even the hardest journeys have more chapters ahead. Keep going.
Sleep well.
